Frédéric Lemay-Bégin Takes On the 1000 KM Challenge – An Inspiring Performance at the Grand défi Pierre Lavoie

From June 12 to 15, our colleague Frédéric Lemay-Bégin proudly took part in the 1000 KM of the Grand défi Pierre Lavoie, a spectacular cycling marathon that brings together thousands of Quebecers around a common goal: promoting healthy lifestyle habits and supporting research on rare hereditary diseases. For four days, Frédéric rode in a relay, day and night, with the Avril team—made up of employees and suppliers—across 12 stages totaling 1,000 kilometers on the roads of Quebec.

The 1000 KM is much more than a sporting achievement. It’s an extraordinary human experience—an adventure marked by effort, comradery, solidarity, and the exhilaration of pushing one’s limits. This challenge also allowed Frédéric to meet many new people and connect with passionate individuals from all walks of life, united by shared values.

For Fred, this challenge was “fantastic,” a perfect match for the energy, team spirit, and mission embodied by the event.

“It was a demanding adventure, but above all, incredibly inspiring. The team spirit, the solidarity, and all the wonderful encounters along the way will remain etched in my memory.” – Frédéric Lemay-Bégin

The Grand défi: A Mission That Speaks to Us

Since its inception, the Grand défi Pierre Lavoie has contributed over $35.8 million — including $2.7 million in 2024 alone — to support research on rare hereditary diseases and promote healthy habits among Quebec youth. Thanks to its scholarships and grants program, and the sponsorship of schools by 1000 KM teams, the impact is both tangible and lasting.

The 1000 KM cyclists are not just athletes. They are true ambassadors of the health movement, inspiring those around them and future generations to get active, eat well, and take care of themselves.

An Event That Reflects Our Values

At Dauphinais, we deeply believe in the importance of social engagement, collective well-being, and pushing oneself beyond limits. Participating in an event like the 1000 KM is also about stepping out of one’s comfort zone, discovering unexpected inner strength, and sharing in an unforgettable group adventure.

It’s also an opportunity to showcase our commitment to the health movement—a message we are proud to carry, and which Frédéric passionately conveyed throughout this incredible journey.
